8-bit tribute

22 08 2009

An amazing tribute to Miles Davis’ Kind of Blue, Kind of Bloop features some songs from the master’s album in soulful 8-bit. Andy Baio of Kickstar posted this project on his nifty little blog (waxy.org) that he describes as a place where, “other people pre-order your dreams — an easy way to get the people you know to fund your ideas into reality.” I can stand behind that…anyone interested in funding some chick lit in the style of a graphic novel? (Just kidding…maybe.)

Purchase the album at www.kindofbloop.org and support the cause!

how many times did phil see his shadow?

19 08 2009

For those of you who have never seen it, Groundhog Day deals with the universal fantasy of wanting to relive a moment in time so that you can go back and fix something. In this particular case, Bill Murry gets to relive the same freezing holiday in Punxsutawney, PA over and over again…just in time to hear that there will be six more weeks of winter. During his journey, Phil Connors (Bill Murry) becomes a master of the piano, French poetry, ice sculpture and all the usual plot tropes associated with moral quest of man vs. himself. And comedic gold ensues!

Brilliantly, Wolf Nards conducted a little research based on the film to figure out just how long Phil would have to relive Groundhog Day in order to be a master in the areas previously mentioned. The results were fantastic…8 years, 8 months, and 16 days.

Check out the rest of the article at Wolf Nards blog.

If you want attention surrounding your wedding, this is the way to do it. On July 4th, Aidra Frazier and Ernest Leitch of Buhl, Idaho walked down the isle in fabulous headgear. However, the bride rolling down the isle with a few guest and maybe some fold up chairs would have been more impressive.

I love how the author of this post seems to be struggling between wanting to describe this as every fanboy’s  wet-dream and as a sweet, innocent shared experience on the metro.

katamari controller

26 05 2009

Artist and programmer Kelly Farrell worked with NYC Resister to create this controller for Katamari. Originally she’d hoped to use a a yoga ball, but unfortunately the rubber posed a bit of a problem when used with the optical mouse. On a bigger budget, a giant rotating controller would be an amazing addition!
